Explanations and clarifications for Yoggie's Firewall behavior.

Yoggie's robust full stateful inspection firewall* allows users on one hand to allow applications and client software to connect through the network and on the other hand to stop unwanted applications and client software from communicating and corrupting the operating system.
By default, Yoggie allows no inbound traffic that was not initiated on the protected computer. A connection that was initiated from the computer (from the LAN to the WAN) will be accepted and a return connection will be permitted.

The Blacklist contains a list of ports that are blocked for outbound traffic, while the Whitelist only allows outbound traffic to the ports listed in it.
When enabling the Whitelist, it will overrule the Blacklist, and all the applications that use different ports (then the list in the Whitelist) will be blocked.

You can make exceptions when manually configuring inbound and outbound ports. These rules will overrule the specific ports in the Whitelist and Blacklist.
Such rules are needed using specific software that requires some ports to be open, like P2P clients – please click here for more information.

* Yoggie's firewall is based on the Linux Netfilter/IPTables firewall.

Yoggie Tray Icon is red.

If you face a Red Yoggie tray icon, please follow these steps:

1. Always verify you are using the latest Yoggie driver.

2. Unplug Yoggie for 30 seconds and plug it back. Verify the correct boot sequence has completed successfully and wait a few seconds to see if the icon is still red (What is the standard boot sequence?).

3. Try following step 2 again but use a different USB port.

4. If you just finished the installation, please try to reboot the computer.
5. Try uninstalling the Yoggie driver, unplug the unit and reboot the computer. Once the O.S. is booted you can plug the Yoggie back and try running the installation again.
6. Verify there is no Firewall software running that might interfere, such as Zone Alarm or Microsoft Firewall. Note that sometimes disabling the software is not enough and uninstalling is required.
7. Open the device manager (Start > Run > "devmgmt.msc" and enter) and expand the Network Adapter tree. Look for the Yoggie device and verify there is no red cross on the Icon - If there is, right click the Yoggie entry and choose enable. Check if the Icon is now Green.

8. If there is an exclamation mark, right click the Yoggie entry and choose Uninstall. Reboot the computer and see if the problem has been solved (note – during this entire step, the Yoggie device should be plugged).

If you are still unable to overcome this problem, please don’t hesitate contacting us.

Device fails to get AV / FW updates

In case the unit fails to get Firmware or Anti virus updates, try the following procedure:

Working with Yoggie's Drivers:
1) Disable the driver (right click on Yoggie's Tray Icon and choose disable protection).
2) Unplug the Yoggie for 1 min
3) Plug the unit back, wait 1 min and enable the protection.
4) Wait 15 min before opening the Management Console.

Working without Yoggie's Drivers:
1) Unplug the Yoggie for 1 min from the power supply (USB or AC adapter).
2) Plug the unit back.
3) Wait 15 min before opening the Management Console.

In addition to the following, please verify that:

1) Internet connation is working.

2) No Proxy was defined (Open the Management Console, click on Settings > Network > Advance, and verify "Direct connection to the Internet" is checked).

3) No specific firewall rules were define that might cause such problem.

AntiVirus updates requires ports 80 (http) and 21 (FTP).

Firmware updates requires ports 5222 (from Firmware 1.3.8 and above, the port changed to 443).

4) The device is not setup in Corporate Mode by mistake.
(open the Management Console, go to Settings and click on System Tab. Click on the "Modify" button under Yoggie Details section.
Then, if the Device is setup in Corporate Mode, please change it to Standalone Mode, apply and wait 15~30 min for an update.)

5) If you connected with PPPOE dialer (you use a dialer on your local computer to establish the internet connection – usually it will be a shortcut placed on your desktop that opens a dialog box with a user and a password), then open the Management Console, Click on Settings section and Network Tab. Then, in the Advance options, reduce the MTU* (Maximum Transfer Unit) to a lower number then the default (1500) and enable this option (try to use 1400).
Apply the changes and wait to see if there is any change.

*MTU configuration is available from Firmware 1.3.0 and above, if you have an older version, please try to connect the unit to a different network (without PPPOE) or contact the support.

6) For Firmware update problems, and for users with Gatekeeper Pico Pro*, please open the Management Console > Settings > System, and click on the Top Button to modify Yoggie Details.
Then, change to Corporate Mode, and type the following IP in the Server Address: 80.179.46.5 (Leave the password empty).
Apply the changes, and wait 5~10 min, to see if the device is updating.
Once it gets to the latest version , you can rollback the changes to Standalone Mode (The license Key is attached to the cover of the installation disk).

* If you have a Gatekeeper Pico, please contact the support.
